Caring tips for the florist

  • Put freesias in clean water - they are very sensitive to dehydration.
Add cut flower food to the water if they are going to stand for more than a day; this will also make the smaller buds open up.
  • Freesias soon cease blossoming in hot weather - so if this is the case, don't take too much out of the cooling at a time.
  • Keep the ethylene sensitive freesias far away from ripening fruit, vegetables and exhaust fumes.
  • The last buds on the comb are sometimes empty; they become brown after a few days.
Removing these buds increases the ornamental value and is good for the continued flowering of the other buds.
